How I Work

SEEING THE FOREST AND THE TREES

Creating room for better decisions.

I work at both forest and trees levels — simultaneously, not sequentially. It's also a core differentiator of mine.

The practice requires holding the broader system that is shaping your work — the forces, patterns, assumptions, and constraints that influence direction — in view while staying close to the details where tradeoffs are made and outcomes are created.

This work treats discernment as a responsibility, not a luxury.

“Before working with Gretchen, I had big ideas, but I was moving fast and fragmented. Working with Gretchen, there is focus, discipline, better decisions, and positive momentum.”

— Gary Snyder, Founder Gary Snyder Fine Arts MT, client

The forest and the trees inform one another in real time.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

The work begins by slowing down just enough to see clearly.

Assumptions are surfaced, language is tightened, and tradeoffs are made visible. What initially appears to be the problem often turns out to be a symptom. That shift, from the obvious question to the actual one, is where direction is won.

Over time, this creates convergence — not through consensus, but through clarity.

HOW I HELP work
MOVE FORWARD

Like a sensei, I patiently guide the everyday practices that cultivate discernment over time, not by chance.

Applied to your work, that means creating the conditions for better decisions — so focus sharpens, decisions connect, and direction holds over time.

Together, we:
● Clarify what’s actually at stake.
● Discern what matters most.
● Decide what deserves attention — and what doesn’t.
● Shape a direction people can commit to with confidence.

STAYING CLOSE TO THE WORK

I don’t operate at arm’s length.

I stay immersed in the details where direction is shaped, tradeoffs are made, and outcomes begin to take form.

WHERE TO FROM HERE

‍ ‍

When meaning, value, and impact are unresolved, the things that matter most deserve more than chance.

Together, we create the conditions for better decisions, so progress is built, not hoped for.

I have starting points, not packages.

Let's start the conversation.

FIT & BOUNDARIES

When speed is valued over consequence, or design is treated as a cosmetic layer, there will be a misfit. Guaranteed.

This work works best when clients are willing to:

● Be honest about uncertainty
● Question assumptions
● Stay open to reframing
● Engage with the work, not just the outcomes
● Act when clarity arrives

You don’t need all the answers.
You do need the willingness to discern what shouldn't be left to chance.

When meaning, value, and impact are still unresolved, judgment matters.

I help design that judgment into the work — so progress isn’t left to chance.
Because there’s a good chance — and then there’s good design.
